Thumb Butte Distillery

Yesterday we visited the Thumb Butte Distillery which uses local grains, herbs, and fruits to make vodka, gin, and whiskeys. We shared a flight of seven spirits. We both sampled their Premium Vodka composed of 80% Italian red wheat and 20% Polish potato. We liked its clean, pure taste and ordered a bottle to take home. My wife also tried the prickly pear and grapefruit vodka. I tried a Hot Potato Gin, Escalante Dark Rum, and Bloody Basin Bourbon. We also took home a souvenir shot glass. Two of their spirits were prize winners at the 2015 Los Angeles International Spirits Competition: the Western Sage Gin won a Silver Medal and the Rodeo Rye Whiskey won a Bronze Medal. The Distillery offers a tour that would give us a better understanding of what they are doing. Unfortunately, they did not have the live music that we saw advertised on their web page.

After our tasting, we headed to the Yavapai County Courthouse to mill with the crowd looking at the Fine Arts & Crafts Show. The quality of the offerings was higher than some of the other summer weekend events. I was curious about the cost of a booth and discovered that it requires payment of $460. No wonder the prices for the art are so high. Prescott is a great place to spend the Fourth of July weekend.
