Waimea Falls

Waimea Falls

Yesterday’s steady rainfall resulted in a large flow of water cascading over Waimea Falls. It was interesting to learn about the Waimea Valley and to stroll through a world class Botanical Garden. We learned that the Valley has been home to and ruled by a long line of kings, chiefs, and high priests. On our three quarter mile stroll to the Falls we passed several traditional living structures. The 1,875 acre Botanical Garden features 41 defines zones, representing 5,000 different typed of plants from all around the world. Although few plants were in bloom, it was interesting to reflect on the distinctive and varied leaves of these plants. In Hawaiian, Waimea means “reddish brown water. As you can see from my snapshot, this area is appropriately named.
