Tom Turkey

The 2015 Yavapai Fair was held on the Prescott Frontier Days Rodeo grounds. We attended the Fair on Friday afternoon. This was my first time on the rodeo grounds. I was surprised at how much room there was for the Fair. We made a quick tour of the animal tent where I noted that Miss Piggy, a Yorkshire Cross, increased her weight from 28 pounds to 254 pounds in 137 days. We spent time observing the judging of sheep and steers in the Show Ring. The judge from Big Timber, Montana was quite impressive in his commentary about the merits (and faults) of the animals. The photography display was of high interest to me. There were many, many outstanding images. The Fine Art displays were much more modest, although a few young people showed great talent. The Homemaking exhibits ranged from clothing and quilts to baked items and canned products. It was interesting to see the flowers, especially the roses and orchids, and the vegetables including poblano peppers and a giant sunflower. We circled around the carnival rides, noting with envy those who can master the Zipper or Fire Ball. Before leaving, we discovered the small animal exhibit with ducks, chickens, and rabbits. A turkey pleaded with me to spare its fate on Thanksgiving but I can only post his picture.
