Watson Lake & Beyond

Watson Lake & Beyond

From the Peavine Trail Head we explored a new (to us) segment of the Prescott Circle Trail. We headed south along the former Peavine Railroad bed. Passenger traffic closed in 1962 and freight stopped in 1983. We crossed Sundog Ranch Road and climbed to an old landfill. We had vistas of Granite Mountain, Watson Lake, and even the snow-capped San Francisco Peaks. This segment of trail was completed in 2014 and work continues this year to complete a connection with the Turley Trail. On our return we slipped through a fence to follow a road through the Watson Woods Riparian Preserve. This restoration formally began in 1995. There has been a realignment of Granite Creek and the development of floodplain wetlands along with restoration of native vegetation. We continue to find new trails to explore in the Prescott area.
