Twisted Rhubarb

Twisted Rhubarb

Sunken Gardens, a Depression-era project in Lincoln, Nebraska and renovated in 2005, was built in a bend of Antelope Creek and a neighborhood dump site. The colorful 1.5 acre garden features two lily ponds. A rhubarb twisted its red stalks in an interesting way. I especially enjoyed contemplating two sculptures. A waterfall flows from “Rebekah at the Well” by David R. Young. Dr. Wayne Southwick used his wife as his model for “Reveille.” Sunken Gardens is one of 300 public gardens, the only one from Nebraska, recognized in National Geographic’s Guide to America’s Public Gardens.
