The Columbus Symphony finished the season with a wonderful concert.  The subtle sounds from Rossini’s familiar Overture to The Barber of Seville prepared us for the featured solist.  Richard Stoltzman displayed his virtuosity by carrying on a musical conversation with the violins, cellos and other instruments in Mozart’s Concerto in A Major for Clarinet and Orchestra, K. 622.  Junichi Hirokami, the new musical director, elicited each section’s contribution by moving as an impish dancer on the podium. Stoltzman, an OSU grad, rewarded us with a Gershwin encore, dazzling us with his talent as a jazz performer as well as a classical artist.  The evening and the season ended with a passionately romanatic reading of Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 43.  A great finish to the season!
